Experience Our Videos: A Two-Part Approach for Realistic Learning
Our Premium Videos are crafted to emulate genuine MRCGP SCA consultations, helping you refine your skills through both demonstration and self-reflection. Here’s what makes our video collection invaluable to your exam preparation:
Two-Part Video Format:
Consultation: Each video begins with a full consultation, just as you’d see it in a real exam scenario.
Marking Scheme & Feedback: After watching the consultation, you’ll see an in-depth marking review, highlighting key strengths and areas needing improvement.
Two Versions for Each Video:
Without Consultation Comments: First watch a consultation as if you were the examiner, noting what went well and what was missing.
With Consultation Comments: Next, compare your observations to our expert insights. This step solidifies your understanding of essential exam criteria.
Not All Cases Are Perfect:
Diverse Performance Levels: Some videos showcase strong performance; others deliberately feature mistakes or weaker areas.
Realistic Expectations: Evidence shows learners improve more when they identify what’s missing rather than watching flawless consultations. Perfect “textbook” examples can create unrealistic exam-day expectations.
Active Learning Benefits:
Self-Evaluation: By independently spotting a candidate’s strengths and weaknesses, you sharpen your critical-thinking skills.
Reflective Practice: Watching our commentary afterward helps confirm if your observations align with what the examiners see, boosting both clinical and communication skills.
Realism Over Perfection:
Authentic Communication Skills: Just as in real life, the candidates in these videos vary in their performance. This mirrors the unpredictable nature of the actual exam.
Preparation for the Unexpected: Since you won’t know the case in advance on exam day, seeing both strong and weaker attempts helps you adapt on the fly, rather than memorise a single “ideal” approach.
Help guide your own practise: Watching us consult and act the ‘mock’ patient will help guide you in how to act the patient during your own revision sessions.
The Consultation..
Our consultation videos are split into two parts, the first part is the consultation itself. During this part of the video, we will run through the consultation itself.
Who’s on which side: The candidate will always appear on the left, and the patient on the right. Whilst this doesn't;t exactly mimic how it will appear in the exam, this is the closest approximation that allows candidates to study and observe the body language of both
Real-Time Timing: In the top right of each case will be a countdown timer, starting at 12:00, to easily reference parts of the consultation should you wish
Guided Marking
After watching the consultation, you’ll see an in-depth marking review, highlighting key strengths and areas needing improvement.
Marking Review: Using the interactive marking available on our website, we will go through the consultation in detail in the second part of each video
Overall Score: We conclude by summarising the overall score that we would have given the candidate, broken down into each domain, and including an overall score.
Discuss the nuances of the case: In addition to the marking, we use this part
Consultation Guides
Our Consultation Guides provide deep insights and practical strategies for managing even the most challenging consultations, making them an essential tool for your SCA preparation. Here’s what sets them apart:
In-Depth Guidance: Each guide walks you through the consultation process step-by-step, offering clear, actionable advice for every stage. You’ll learn how to handle complex scenarios, such as dealing with an angry patient, breaking bad news, or managing multiple presenting complaints with confidence and clarity.
Focus on Challenging Scenarios: The guides are tailored to cover the toughest cases, including demanding patients, third-party consultations, and consultations with relatives. By focusing on these difficult situations, you’ll build the skills and confidence necessary to handle the most complex cases in the exam.
Essential Consultation Skills: Beyond specific scenarios, our guides also cover fundamental skills like demonstrating empathy and managing time efficiently, helping you deliver effective consultations under the SCA’s time constraints.
Practical Examples: Each guide includes good and bad example phrases that illustrate the most effective ways to communicate with patients. These examples help you refine your consulting style and avoid common pitfalls, ensuring that your communication is both clear and patient-friendly.
These comprehensive guides cover both the challenging presentations and the core consultation skills needed to excel in the SCA, offering you practical, hands-on advice that’s easy to apply during practice or in exam conditions.
Write & Share Your Own Cases
Our platform allows you to create, store, and practice your own SCA cases effortlessly. Here's how it works:
Simple Case Creation: Using our intuitive form, you can easily write and structure your own practice cases. Whether you’re focusing on a particular scenario or condition, the form helps guide you through the key elements to ensure your case is comprehensive and exam-relevant.
Store and Share: Once written, your cases are securely stored on the platform. You can choose to practice them within your small study group or share them with the broader SCA revision community, helping others while also receiving feedback on your cases.
Group Revision Feature: Cases that you write can be seamlessly integrated into our inbuilt group revision tool. This feature allows your study group to work through the case collaboratively, simulating the real SCA exam environment and offering a dynamic learning experience.
*Please note that this feature is only available in our newer cases. We are in the process of updating all our older cases to be compatible with this feature.
Group Revision
Our Group Revision feature offers a flexible and interactive way to collaborate on case practice. Here’s how it works:
One-Click Case Sharing: With just one click, you can instantly share any case with your revision group. It’s a fast and efficient way to bring everyone into the same session without hassle.
Flexible Role Selection: After sharing, each participant can choose their role. Whether they wish to be the doctor, examiner, or observer, our platform makes it easy for everyone to engage.
QR Code or Shareable Link: Once you’ve selected roles, our system generates a QR code or shareable link, making it simple for others to join. Examiners and observers can access the case content without needing an account, though the patient role-player will need an account to view detailed case information and scripts.
Unlimited Participants: This feature allows unlimited participants to join as examiners, making it ideal for larger revision groups, and small or large group teaching sessions. Multiple people can assess the session in real-time, offering a more dynamic and collaborative learning experience.
Supports Custom Cases: Whether you’re using pre-made cases or cases you’ve written yourself, this feature seamlessly extends to both, allowing for flexible group practice in any scenario.
*Please note that this feature is only available in our newer cases. We are in the process of updating all our older cases to be compatible with this feature.
Mock Exam Generator
Our Mock Exam Generator is designed to replicate the real SCA exam experience, providing a randomised selection of cases to help you prepare under authentic conditions. Here’s why it’s a valuable tool for your revision:
Random Selection of 12 Cases: The generator selects 12 cases at random from our extensive library. Each case is labelled generically (e.g., "Case 1", "Case 2") to ensure you don’t know the content ahead of time, making the experience feel more like the actual exam.
Seamless Group Practice: After generating your mock exam, you can share it with peers or trainers using a unique 4-character reference code. This allows your revision group to access the same set of cases, facilitating group or remote practice.
Access and Retrieve: You can easily retrieve previously generated exams using the same code, making it simple to revisit cases or review them with others for feedback.
The Mock Exam Generator provides a structured and unpredictable challenge every time, ensuring that your preparation mirrors the real exam environment.
Premium Condition Explanation Generator
Our Premium Condition Explanation Generator is designed to help you master one of the most crucial skills for passing the SCA: explaining medical conditions to patients in a clear, concise, and patient-friendly manner. Here’s how it works:
Random or Custom Condition Selection: With this tool, you can either generate explanations for conditions at random or, with paid membership, select specific conditions from a comprehensive list. This flexibility allows you to target areas you need the most practice in or challenge yourself with unfamiliar conditions.
Patient-Friendly Explanations: The generator provides clear, easy-to-understand explanations that are ideal for use during tutorials or group practice. These explanations help you hone your ability to communicate complex medical information in a way that patients can easily grasp—an essential skill for the SCA.
Perfect for Solo or Group Study: Whether revising alone or in a small group, the condition explanation generator is an invaluable tool for practicing concise communication. It helps ensure that your explanations are both quick and effective, just as they need to be under the time constraints of the SCA.
Mastering the ability to explain conditions clearly is key to passing the SCA, and this tool provides a practical and interactive way to develop that skill.
