WHAT TRAINEES SAY

“This website is a hidden gem. It takes you through unique scenarios which one might not have come across as a GP trainee. Really useful website. I strongly recommend this exam resource to guide your preparation.”

— Dr Z Nahar · MRCGP SCA candidate

The SCA → SOO crossover map

The skills are the same.
Only the labels change.

The SCA and the SOO are different exams. They share more than most people realise — a clear-eyed map shows you how to use this platform, and where to layer in Canadian-specific study.

ELEVATE YOUR PREPARATION

Built for the SCA. Useful for the SOO.

Preparing for the CFPC Simulated Office Orals is demanding, particularly on the communication side. Our cases — though designed for the UK MRCGP Simulated Consultation Assessment — align closely with the skills and domains assessed in the SOO, making them a useful preparation tool when paired with Canadian-guideline study.

Skill alignmentCommunication, clinical reasoning, and patient-centred management evaluated in both exams.
Realistic scenariosSingle-patient cases in a format that mirrors the SOO.
Focused preparationTimed consultations that train pace and structure.
Detailed markingMarking scheme, key issues, patient explanations, and an evidence-based management summary on every case.
Versatile useSmall revision groups, one-to-one with a trainer, or solo at home.
No AI shortcutsEvery case written by experienced GP trainers with first-hand exam experience.
Expertly crafted cases. No AI shortcuts. Exams involve real patients, not bots, and the cases reflect that. Pair with a Canadian source (CFPC, CADTH, Canadian Task Force, provincial formularies) for biomedical content — use our cases for the consultation craft.
360+ WRITTEN CASES

Full case packs.
Not one-line scenarios.

Our cases reflect real-life general-practice consultations to give you exam-relevant practice for the CFPC SOO. Every case is written by experienced GP trainers with first-hand exam experience — built for nuance, not from AI. 360+ cases across the full curriculum, so you’re prepared for a wide range of presentations and complexity.

  • Pre-case patient summary for quick orientation
  • Patient role-play scripts that feel like a real interaction
  • Comprehensive marking schemes — translatable to the SOO’s PCCM framework
  • Evidence-based management notes (UK guidelines — substitute Canadian equivalents)
  • Difficulty ratings plus filters by clinical topic or keyword
  • Works for solo study, small groups or one-to-one trainer practice

AI MARKING

Roleplay. Record it.
Get marked when you finish.

The hardest part of SOO revision isn’t doing cases — it’s knowing whether you’re getting better. AI marking solves that. Record a roleplay, the AI assesses it against the marking scheme, and returns a detailed report you can translate to PCCM.

  • Domain-specific scoring
  • Specific feedback — what landed, what didn’t, what to try next
  • Score history so you can track your trajectory

Tough conversations

Breaking bad news

There are no good ways to break bad news. There are only ways that respect the person hearing it.

9 MIN READ

Pace is the difference between a patient who feels heard and one who feels processed.

01Slow down before you start

The opening 30 seconds set the entire consultation. Before delivering the news itself, signal that something serious is coming and check the patient is ready to hear it.

✓ Good practice
"There's something I need to share with you. Would now be a good time?"
✗ Avoid
"So I've got the results back, you've got…"
INSIDE THE PLATFORM

The bits that save your evening.

Smaller tools that take the friction out of revising — built into every case so you spend your time consulting, not preparing to consult. Built-in timer on every case — defaults to 12 minutes (SCA), easy to set to 15 for SOO-paced practice.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

SOO-specific questions, answered.

Email anything else to info@scarevision.co.uk.

Is this a SOO-specific platform?+

No. It’s an MRCGP SCA platform with strong communication-skills crossover into the SOO. If you want a SOO-exclusive question bank, this isn’t it. If you want to drill patient-centred consultations under time pressure — with AI patients, filmed examples, and structured feedback — it does that job well.

Do the cases follow Canadian guidelines?+

No. Clinical management notes are written to UK guidelines (NICE, CKS, BNF, RCGP, RCOG, BASHH, FSRH). Pair this platform with a Canadian source (CFPC, CADTH, Canadian Task Force, provincial formularies) for your biomedical content. See the mapping section above.

How do I translate the marking to the SOO?+

Use the mapping table above. The SCA “Relating to Others” domain is closest to the heart of the PCCM. “Data Gathering” overlaps with the SOO’s exploration of the illness experience (FIFE). “Clinical Management” overlaps with finding common ground.

The SCA is 12 minutes per case. The SOO is 15. Does that matter?+

The built-in timer defaults to 12 minutes (SCA timing). For SOO practice, run your own 15-minute timer. The pacing skill transfers in both directions.

Who writes the cases?+

Experienced GP trainers with first-hand exam experience. Not AI-generated.

Can I cancel anytime?+

Yes. Monthly, no contract, cancel from your account.

What devices does it work on?+

Any modern browser on desktop, laptop, tablet or phone. AI patients work on phone and desktop.

Do I need a study partner?+

No. AI patients let you practise out loud whenever you want. Group revision tools are there if you have a partner.
